Tattoo Removal – FAQs

At The Aesthetic Medicine & Anti-Aging Clinics of Louisiana, we see many men and women who have tattoos they wish to remove.  There are various reasons for wanting to remove a tattoo, all as personal as those that fueled getting one. If you have an interest in tattoo removal, we hope this FAQ will help you understand what to expect.

How Many Sessions Will Be Needed to Remove My Tattoo?

Every person and their tattoo are unique. In most cases, a series of treatment sessions is required for tattoo removal. For tattoos that were not professionally done, like home tattoos, fewer treatments may be needed. Each treatment is spaced multiple weeks apart. That said, various factors may affect the number of treatments that are needed, including:

  • How deep the ink was placed into the skin
  • The amount of ink used for the original tattoo
  • How old the tattoo is
  • The type of ink used
  • What colors were used
  • The location of your tattoo

The time allotted between each session is designed to allow your body to heal and flush out the treated ink through its natural processes. Those processes take multiple weeks since the ink is broken down slowly. Since the period is needed for optimal results, we cannot lessen the time between sessions.

What Does Tattoo Removal Feel Like?

The feeling of tattoo removal is often compared to getting a tattoo.  That said, your sessions should be much shorter than a tattoo session.

Will The Tattoo Be Removed Completely?

Most tattoos can be completely removed. However, it all depends on the situation.

Will I Have a Scar?

Our team is professionally trained, and our goal is to help you achieve the best results possible. We encourage you to follow all aftercare instructions provided after each session. Typically, people have little to no scarring from laser tattoo removal. Visual examples of the results that can be achieved are available during your consultation.
