Stimulate your body’s own natural collagen production process and heal your damaged skin with microneedling!
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a procedure that uses an electronic device with microfine needles to puncture the skin, creating minor but controlled skin injury to the superficial layers, which then triggers the body’s natural wound healing process to rebuild the skin. At the aesthetic medicine & anti-aging clinics of Louisiana, we use skinpen, the only fda-cleared microneedling device in the world, to effectively treat acne scarring, fine lines & wrinkles, stretch marks and uneven skintone.
How does microneedling work?
The microinjuries that are delivered to the skin trigger the body’s natural response to heal damaged cells, producing collagen and elastin, and therefore remodeling the skin and thickening the epidermis. Microneedling is effective for treating acne scars, fine lines & wrinkles, stretch marks, melasma and uneven skintone.
What is microneedling with prp?
When done with prp (platelet-rich plasma) the regenerative effects are increased due to the small amounts of plasma from the patient’s own blood being inserted back into the skin through the tiny channels created by the microneedles. The natural growth factors and protein found in one’s own plasma stimulate rapid skin repair and further collagen production.
Does microneedling hurt?
Your skin will be numb so you should experience minimal discomfort.
What should I expect during treatment?
During your appointment, you will first have your blood drawn by a nurse (if doing microneedling with prp) and a topical numbing cream will be applied to the area(s) being treated. After numbing, the treatment with the skinpen will begin. The technician will glide the pen across the area while controlling the depth of the needles to best fit each patient’s needs, comfort level and desired results. When done with prp, the plasma (prp) that has been separated from the blood will then be applied to the skin with the second pass of the microneedling treatment, allowing the punctures to inject the prp into the skin.
What is the downtime with microneedling?
Microneedling is widely popular for its minimal downtime. After your treatment you may go back to your daily activities. You may notice a flushed effect on your face or the area that has been treated. When done with prp, the redness will be increased. Depending on the depth that you and your technician have chosen for the penetration of needles, you may experience more bleeding, and therefore more redness that could increase the downtime. No makeup is to be worn for 24 hours following your treatment. If using products such as spot treatments, scrubs, retin-a or acid washes, your downtime may consist of minor peeling.
What are the contraindications for microneedling?
There are no contraindications! Microneedling is approved and safe for all skin types. We suggest patients stop using retin-a or any products that cause sensitivity 7-14 days prior to the treatment to prevent any additional downtime.
